Today marks the passing of a remarkable woman, strong of mind and spirit even when the body had become frail, mischevious and manipulative, generous and vocal, cheeky and bawdy though always pretending to be above anything that she actually was probably doing... liked a tipple, taught me much, hurt me much, loved me much, did the best she could, forged new paths, quietly covered old tracks, flew in the face of convention, enjoyed materialism, vanity, laughter, socialising, witty and piss taking, this all of this was Grace, my grandmother. In her 93rd year she has left us, like all of the women on both sides of my family, in her 9th decade, I swear the female line is going for Bradmans average...

Normally by now i would be discussing the wonderful evening i had last night, dinner with B & G and Mort with a 19 strong MiFFi contingent, perhaps even the uber-amusing ride home :D but alas, there is a funeral on my calender for monday, celebrations tomorrow night for dear Laura Joy (Laura Laura, oh how we adore her!!!) who passed this June, and I am not feeling as talkative as i might feel otherwise...

meanwhile, i'll let the good doctor have a word with you...

Doctor Evil's Childhood
written by Mike Myers

Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist (Carrie Fisher): Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.
Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

monday monday, so good to me
monday morning it was all i hoped it would be ee ee ee...

that beauty is in the eye of the bee holder we know...
but mondays are in the palm of my hand waiting to be crushed like pathetic ants.. oh wait.. that's my megalomania fantasy... rewind................

dvd day rocked as always.. though brief.. nowhere near as many speshul features as there were on the spinal tap dvd for instance, and the true romance sound setup sucked so bad that we had to play it through my *cough*mono*cough* telly :( yeah i'm a povo student so shut up :P ... jjsgtnhttro came through with spectacular munchibles..i do believe we grazed solidly amidst the groans and laughter... true romance didn't stand up as well as i would have liked.... perhaps it was not best suited to being the final movie for the day as it's pace was so much slower than from dusk till dawn.. truly a body count flick if ever there was one... mucho death in tr but more story, wacky as it is... the two best scenes of course are still fantastic, patricia arquette and james gandolfini going head to head in the motel, and Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper head to head in the trailer... mmmmmmmmmm so good!!! hehee you're an eggplant! and you're a cantaloupe! hmm finish some housework then off to tafe i go... hi ho hi ho

Plastic Fantastic Lover -Jefferson Airplane - album -Surrealistic Pillow

Her neon mouth with a bleeding talk smile
Is nothing but electric sign
You could say she has an individual style
She's a part of a colorful time

Super-sealed lady, chrome-color clothes
You wear 'cause you have no other
But I suppose no one knows
You're my plastic fantastic lover

Your rattlin' cough never shuts off
Is nothing but a used machine
Your aluminum finish, slightly diminished
Is the best I've ever seen

Cosmetic baby, plug into me
And never, ever find another
And I realize no one's wise
To my plastic fantastic lover

The electrical dust is starting to rust
Her trapezoid thermometer taste
All the red tape is mechanical rape
Of the TV program waste

Data control and IBM
Science is mankind's brother
But all I see is draining me
On my plastic fantastic lover

Well it's not the most eloquent i've ever been, but at least it's done.. my kill bill review is here at last!! enjoy - or not :P

Kill Bill - another fabulous action packed outing from Mr Tarantino, again paying loving homage to his favourite movie genres, this time it's Samurai to Hong Kong action / B Kung Fu movies to Spaghetti western. In this instance, we follow our heroine - code name 'Black Mamba' aka 'The Bride', played by Uma Thurman, on a voyage back and forwards through time, discovering her herstory and unravelling a tale of revenge, deception and double crosses galore. We open with the very pregnant Black Mamba's wedding, watching as she is the last of the entire wedding party to be executed by her former boss and colleagues, her final words as she is shot in the head inform her assassin that the baby she is carrying is his. Black Mamba does not die however, she slips into a coma from which she awakens five years hence and minus her baby...At this point I should mention that I'm not normally an Uma fan, don't dislike her but I had never been really grabbed and convinced by one of her performances - until now that is. Black Mamba is on screen for most of the movie - and is fantastic, Uma carries it beautifully.
As in all of Tarantino's work, once again we are invited to look at the mundane human aspects of the lives of extraordinarily violent people, we are shown them with humour, respect and sympathy, despite a kind of comic book shallowness, we connect, we are drawn in, we empathise.
The action sequences are fantastico, even down to the wirework, which is brought back from superhuman abilities to human frailty with a little overbalancing, tentative footwork on the balustrade, a nice touch I thought.
For the first time, in this movie we are introduced to one of the main characters, arch nemesis and former colleague o-ren ishii (Lucy Liu) through the medium of anime... beautifully done IMHO, but I am not qualified to analyse this in any depth, that's up to you guys.
Watch for my favourite characters - Buck and GoGo... delightful cameos of note :)!
But.....
You know what I like about Tarantino films? It's the little things.... ;)
The Game of Death homage where Black Mamba is dressed like Bruce Lee in a yellow track suit with chunky vertical black stripe, accessorised with matching bike leathers and full face helmet as she single handedly wipes out the Japanese yakuza..
Nice one Quentin!
The symbolism of the all too literal pool of blood in the restaurant...
The bamboo fountain, counting down the minutes of life like a slow, soft, soporific metronome...thock..............thock...............thock
The pristine snow covered Japanese garden, setting for the final showdown, so simple, clean and soft, the purity of blood spilt for honour..

cat's thoughts: Did not want this to end!! Phew! thankfully there's a part II

score: 9/10 as it lost a point for making me wait for part II

Good Morning Starshine! it's 6am and i'm just finishing coffee number one prior to heading out for 7k's of walkie goodness :D
I managed to finish my set work yesterday which is a mental hurdle cleared away, so a fully recreational sunday for me it is! Susan is heading over here at 9am, bringing more than 20 cd's (that'll keep us busy) and her guitar - hehe a beginnerers jam session is on the cards!

Yesterday bought my first mango of the season, and down south here it was a cool $2.50 au, soon the prices shall drop however :) and it will be mango and peach goodness all the way when the rest of the stone fruit are in season... ie; late summer...

speaking of summer, got sunburnt yesterday... betw 7am and 8.30am!! not badly but enough to sap my strength like kryptonite and leave me feeling sweepy all day long :( then a cool change hit and i have that evil sunburnt shivery chills thing happening... ewwwwwwwwww!!

still packing, cleaning, purging possessions etc in preparation to move house... soon but i don't know when. I have three offers of share housing and am waiting on my offer of govt housing to see what i am entitled too... the most important thing to me right now is to have somewhere to live where i can gets some sleep!! Oh and i also want to invent uber1337haX0ry goodness in a can... :)

I Can't Make Your Way (Chris Dreja / Jim McCarty / Jeff Beck / Keith Relf / Paul Samwell-Smith)
I can't make your way.
Silly men, they all get worried,
Live their life so worthlessly,
Troubled, bothered, flustered, hurried,
They should take a look at me.
Taxman, rentman, they all chase me,
I ain't home when they come round.
Got no money, live my life free,
That's the best way, I have found.

I can't make your way.
I can't make your way.

I can't make your way.
Is that me I hear you calling?
Do I hear you call my name?
It ain't me that will be falling,
Ten years time, I'll be the same.

I can't make your way.
I can't make your way.
I can't make your way.
I can't make your way.
I can't make your way.

seems just about anything will drag me away from my current exercise.. but i've done quite a bit and a break was in order when the cd made it to the last track of 'At the Sound of the Bell' and my attention drifted outside.. through the window to where the dark rumbling clouds are rolling over the rooftops of the flats and funny little houses in my street... This view is so dramatic and the air is charged with electricity.. nervous excitement spreads racing through my awareness...

DID YOU SEE HIM CRY
David Surkamp - Douglas Rayburn

How many times has he waited there
Beneath the boughs of angel hair
Woolen coat pulled tight against the wind
That whipped and chaffed his face
And left him that much more apart
From his old dreams that new lovers
Cannot own or hope to ever know
What's behind an old man's lonely eyes

When he's alone and the sun is high
Children laugh and he'd like to hide
Days like these seem to hang on
For so long
They seem to drag him down
And leave him that much more apart
And he wishes someone would invite him home
To pass the time
Or to maybe find some time
Or maybe

Did you see him cry

Did you ever watch him pace
And all the ways he tries to hide his face
Misplaced in a world not like his own
And did you ever stop to speak
Or hear him try to tell about
How she and he were lovers
Just like you
And they were just like you
